Steve McQueen tribute

On November 4th 2010, acclaimed author Marshall Terrill, together with Steve McQueen’s widow Barbara Minty-McQueen, attended London’s Poster Art Gallery to launch both an exhibition as well as a new book to celebrate the actor, who died on 7th November 1980 from asbestos related cancer.

The book, titled ‘Steve McQueen – A Tribute To The King Of Cool’, is a lavish illustrated coffee table book written by Terrill and with a foreword written by Barbara. It tells the actor’s story through memories from his family, fiends, colleagues, fans and business associates.

The exhibition included a selection of Barbara’s personal images of her late husband, as well as vintage movie posters of some of McQueen’s most popular films like ‘Bullitt’ (displayed as a rare 6ft poster), ‘The Great Escape’, ‘Papillon’, ‘The Cincinnati Kid’ and many more. Since the star was a a car and motorbike enthusiast, an original Triumph Bonneville motorcycle was also exhibited.

The charming Barbara revealed that Marshall’s new book (his third about McQueen) was a welcome opportunity to travel through Europe, not only to promote the book and the exhibition within the UK, but also to turn it into a holiday. Her next stop was Amsterdam and she sure looked forward to it.
